The people, united.

Patriots,

ICE has killed another person, this time in our back yard in Biddeford, Maine. We will not stop speaking out against these so-called federal agents who are using an ever-growing pile of billions taxpayer dollars to carry out Donald Trump and Stephen Miller's campaign of terror.

We'll be standing out at Citizen's Bank on July 25th from 11AM-12PM, to demand that Citizen's Bank stop funding ICE detention facilities by lending to GEO group, a private prison company. We'll have informational flyers to hand out to folks who pass by.

Please bring signs specific to this action: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren't Communities; Citizens Bank - Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don't Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank - Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; etc.

De-ICE Citizens Bank - Westfield, MA - Coordinated Action · De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition
Join No Kings Westfield and thousands of people across the country to send Citizens Bank a clear message: financing private prison and immigration detention facility operators The GEO Group and CoreCivic is bad for business. Please bring signs specific to this action: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren’t Communities; Citizens Bank - Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don’t Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank - Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; etc. Citizens Bank is bankrolling the country’s two largest prison companies that are earning record profits operating dozens of ICE detention facilities. While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies, which are already holding more than half of the 70,000 immigrants currently in ICE detention centers across the country. The bank’s capital is supporting a deplorable ICE agenda that aims to fill detention centers with more than 100,000 people by next year. Even as it publicly touts its commitment to “strengthening our communities,” Citizens Bank has played a key role in helping The GEO Group and CoreCivic access more than $2.5 billion in financing, some of it approved earlier this year. This comes as the companies face a mountain of allegations, including forced labor and wrongful deaths due to understaffing and medical neglect at their facilities. We won’t quietly stand by as Citizens continues to finance the private prison & ICE detention companies that are harming our communities. The 2019 exodus of banks from the industry in response to activism should be a reminder to us that our voices matter. Now it’s time to use them. Visit www.de-icecitizensbank.org for more information and other actions you can take! Remember, we want to be in solidarity with workers including bank branch employees. Treat everyone with respect and do not harass or film employees. A core principle behind all Coalition events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. We expect hosts to ensure all participants in your event uphold this commitment. We recommend all participants review a safety and security resource before your event, such as https://indivisi.org/safety.

If you think you see ICE, please call LUCE @ 617-370-5023

Get out the vote!

We had an amazing turnout for our postcard event yesterday.  19 people  that showed up to help!  Big thanks to the working team members who were able to show up and the greater community who seem very willing to get the vote out across the country! We under estimated and actually ran out of cards so we had less work than we had workers.  There were also generous donations of stamps and postcards that we’ll be able to use for the next event, which is on August 1st!

Following his "BIG ASS CANVASS" in Springfield with almost 100 door-knockers and thousands of doors knocked, the Team Whelan is coming to Westfield on Thursday at 5pm for another canvass! You can sign up here:

Just bring comfortable shoes, a charged phone, and your enthusiasm to help us reach more voters and spread our message.

Datacenters

The mayor has signed the 12 month datacenter moratorium. YOU showing up with your neighbors contributed to this happening. Thank you for trying out your voice!

Legal representation has been obtained to address the existing datacenter (Servistar LLC) permit. This is the existing application from 2021:

Westfield Friends of Peace

Powerful first meeting of 16 peaceful friends!  They agreed to meet next later in August, and plan outreach to students and wider community for regular circles starting next Fall. Please be on the lookout for more events, and thank you to the Interfaith Center at Westfield State for coordinating this effort for mindful discussion with our neighbors and across generations.

See you tomorrow in Park Square!
