Many of us are old enough to remember Kent State—not as history, but as shock.

Unarmed students. National Guard rifles. A line crossed that could not be uncrossed.

The shooting of an unarmed 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis today is no less horrific.  Different decade. Same warning.

Cold weather tempts us indoors. History tells us this moment is more important than our comfort. 

A call to action: join LUCE in Holyoke tonight from 6-7PM at Holyoke City Hall, in rememberance and community and solidarity. Bring someone new, meet someone new, and strengthen the bonds between us.

We thank those that joined us last night in Westfield and Springfield on such short notice– even a member of the press– to bring witness and vigil to this moment.

This moment is not some abstract tragedy. We will not stand idly by and offer thoughts and prayers, or nothing at all, like conservative Democrats, having built up the apparatus of state violence for decades, surprised that it’s operating as intended. You will be primaried and lose.

We must Abolish ICE, and remove its apologists and supporters power.

Last week we grew from 25 to 43. That matters. Growth is how witness becomes movement.  Next Tuesday, at 3:30 pm in Park Square, we want to number 70 or more—not for spectacle, but because silence is permission.
